However, what he discovers is that the "99% complete" assertion was more like a 99% fabrication.

Holmes and Holmes (stylized as Holmes+Holmes) is a Canadian television reality show, which premiered on HGTV Canada in 2016. The show features contractor Mike Holmes and his son Mike Holmes Jr. renovating homes. For the fall 2016 TV season, Holmes and Holmes premiered.
He and his team promise to "Make It Right," even if it means stripping a house down to its bones. He has continued in several successive TV series. The remainder of the work is funded by the TV production company, but in some cases, Mike Holmes personally contributes funds towards the repairs. The show's premise revolves around general contractor Mike Holmes visiting homeowners who are in need of help, mainly due to unsatisfactory home renovations performed by hired contractors. A typical episode has homeowners describing their experiences with the previous contractor, including what had caused the original contractor to leave the work incomplete or with substandard work . Holmes would also go into detail to explain why the work he sees is substandard and needs to be replaced during the repair process.

Mike and the crew take the house down brick by brick and stud by stud to save the family from shoddy work done under the previous contract, then design an eco-friendly home and construct it on the site. This episode is notable for employing over 100 companies and 30 months of construction work - to date the most extensive work on the show, in terms of materials, manpower, and time. Damon Bennett - Damon was introduced in the fourth season of the series in the episode Window Well to Hell. With the departure of Shawn, Damon became the senior contractor starting in the sixth season.
He teamed up with designer Alison Victoria ofWindy City Rehabwhom he judged in season one. She says, "I'm a designer and [Mike's] a genius in the build. It's a partnership like no other." Holmes began a new series in 2009 called Holmes Inspection that profiles home inspections gone wrong. The series started airing in fall 2009 on HGTV Canada. In the United States, the series debuted on HGTV on Sunday, December 19, 2010. Holmes inspected the houses while checking up on the construction, leaving long-time crew member Damon Bennett as the lead site manager and backup host.

After the homeowner hired a roofer to investigate, the roofer discovered that the joists holding the balcony up had completely rotted through, and was forced to abort any roof repair.

Mike Holmes' contracting empire includes more than just television shows. He's also the author of six books.The Holmes Manual, which was published in 2015, was fueled by Mike's routine interactions with fans. According to theCalgary Herald, former Chief Executive Officer Juius Brinkman sued Mike for $3.1 million, claiming breach of contract and other offenses. Brinkman claimed the business owed him 5 percent of total shareholdings, in addition to reimbursements from incurred expenses and more. In the suit, Brinkman alleged Mike and others involved in the business "unlawfully converted those funds for their own use and benefit" and/or "otherwise accounted in such a fashion for these amounts to have solely benefited themselves."
Stone Walled - Mike Holmes arrives to a home in which the homeowners had removed a retaining wall in their backyard because it needed replacement. Country Kitchen (a.k.a. Nashville Kitchen) - Mike and crew arrive at a 25-year-old townhouse, where the homeowners had undertaken a kitchen renovation, but ended up with a very small and virtually unusable kitchen. Unfortunately, the original contractor had left much of the material ordered unused, and had done a subpar job in building the new wall from cinderblocks meant for the foundation of a house — which was completely inappropriate given the size of the wall needed.
